Lifeward is a warforged cleric and Seeker of the Blood of Vol.
Personality
Lifeward is a good character who wants to see the peoples of Khorvaire work together for a better tomorrow.
They do not see the point in being masculine or feminine, and uses the pronouns they/them.
Being from Karrnath, Lifeward is exceptionally pragmatic and will use violence to resolve conflict if appropriate. Lifeward will always try to resolve conflict in a non-lethal manner. Any loss of life (and this the divine spark) is to be mourned.
They are not squimish about necromancy. Lifeward sees the use of undead the same as the use of warforged -- they are not "alive", but instead are tools to help the living. Lifeward will not hesitate to raise undead or commit other acts traditionally considered "evil".
Background
Lifeward was one of the earlier batches of warforged from a Cyrian creation forge in 976 YK. They were trained as a bodyguard and sold to Karrnath's military. They participated in the Last War by protecting a unit of Karrn necromancers tasked with raising fresh undead cannon fodder.
After the war concluded and Karrnath's people were no longer needed defending, Lifeward was left without purpose. They ended up in a refugee camp, helping Cyrian refugees with menial tasks.
One morning, Karrn veterans entered the camp. Lifeward noticed people fleeing, and went towards the source of the trouble. They found Cyrians being casually murdered, raised as zombies, and packed into a wagon. Lifeward asked them to stop killing his charges, but the men laughed and said they needed more farmhands.
Lifeward responded by extending their mace and kneecapping the nearest veteran. A brawl ensued, and Lifeward quickly dissuaded the unarmoured men. They took their fresh zombies and fled the camp, promising to return with friends "real soon" to finish their work.
A woman emerged from the crowd and grabbed Lifeward's arm. She said her name was Rolunda Sigund and thanked them for their help. Rolunda warned Lifeward that the men would certainly return in a few hours with a vendetta, but that she had friends who could help.
Insert some story about traveling into a nearby town, getting caught by the men, and barely escaping Karrnath.
Rolunda explains the Blood of Vol to Lifeward.
Lifeward was shaken by their conflict with the Karrn necromancers. The doctrine Rolunda explained made sense to Lifeward, and they felt comforted by the idea that all true life in Khorvaire were sacred and should be protected.
Rolunda gets injured.
The truth of this was reaffirmed when Lifeward chanted one of the spells they had heard the necromancers use hundreds of times: Cure Wounds. The spell worked, and Rolunda survived the night.
Theology
Lifeward does not believe any gods exist in Eberron -- the horrors of the Last War were too great for a deity not to intervene.
Divine magic, however, is a phenomena that Lifeward has seen. The idea of the living having the *divine spark*, as explained by the Seeker in Karrnath, is a logical explanation for this magic.
Look not to the skies, nor to the depths below, nor even to the distant past or future. Seek the divine within, for the blood is the life, and in its call can be heard the promise of eternal life. One has but to listen.
- Blood of Vol Doctrine
They will try to explain the divine spark to those who pay homage to gods and convince them to abandon their illogical beliefs.
Lifeward's divine magic draws upon those around him. He utilizes the inherent divinity in other living creatures to better serve and protect them.
They do not participate in any formal organization. Being new to the faith, Lifeward has no special knowledge of the Emerald Claw beyond what a Karrn citizen would know.
